Why Good Prep Work Makes or Breaks a Bathroom Remodel

Most people only want to see the finished bathroom. The pretty tile, the clean grout lines, the finished walls. But what happens before all of that is just as important - maybe more so. This is what a bathroom looks like when it's being done the right way.

Here's what we were working with - fresh floor tile already laid, waterproofing membrane applied to the shower area, and walls properly prepped before any finish material goes on. The blue patches you see are joint compound being worked into the drywall seams. Every one of those spots gets smoothed out before we move forward. It's not glamorous work, but skipping it is exactly how you end up with bubbling texture or tile that doesn't sit flat.

The waterproofing stage in the shower is where a lot of remodels cut corners. We don't. That dark coating on the shower walls and pan needs to be applied correctly and allowed to cure before tile ever touches it. Get that wrong and you're looking at moisture problems down the road - mold, soft walls, failed grout. Getting it right the first time means the finished shower holds up for the long haul.

We take our time on the front end because rushing prep is how callbacks happen. When the tile goes on a wall that's been properly skimmed and smoothed, and over a shower that's been correctly waterproofed, the finished result looks cleaner and lasts longer. That's the whole point.
